Air resistance
Air resistance, also known as drag, is the force that opposes the motion of an object through the air, caused by the interaction between the object and the surrounding air molecules. This force is a key concept in Aerodynamics and is crucial in understanding the behavior of objects in flight, such as Airplanes and Parachutes. The amount of air resistance an object experiences depends on its shape, size, and velocity, as well as the density of the air it is moving through. Engineers and Physicists use mathematical models, such as the Drag equation, to calculate and predict air resistance. Understanding air resistance is essential in designing efficient Machines, such as Wind turbines and Fans, and in optimizing the performance of Vehicles.
