Antibody
An antibody, also known as an immunoglobulin, is a large, Y-shaped protein produced mainly by plasma cells that is used by the immune system to neutralize pathogens such as bacteria and viruses. Antibodies are a key part of the Immune system, and are used to identify and neutralize foreign objects like bacteria and viruses. Each antibody binds to a specific Antigen, helping to remove it from the body. The production of antibodies is a key part of the Adaptive immune system, and is influenced by the presence of B cells and T cells. Antibodies can be produced in a laboratory using Chromatography and Fractionating column techniques, and are used in a variety of medical applications, including Vaccination and Immunotherapy. The study of antibodies is closely related to the study of Protein complexes and Ensemble methods.
