Arithmetic
Arithmetic is the branch of Mathematics concerned with the properties and manipulation of Numbers. It forms the foundation of mathematical thought, teaching us how quantities combine, transform, and relate to one another through fundamental operations.
The four basic operations—addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division—are humanity's first tools for understanding quantity and change. These operations emerged independently across many civilizations: ancient Greeks, Indian mathematicians, and Chinese scholars all developed sophisticated arithmetic systems, each reflecting their unique practical needs and philosophical perspectives.
Beyond mere calculation, arithmetic reveals deeper patterns. Properties like Symmetry in operations, the behavior of Irrational numbers, and the structure of Area and Radius in geometry all root themselves in arithmetic principles.
