Calciumcalmodulin-dependent protein kinase
Calciumcalmodulin-dependent protein kinase (CaMK) is a family of enzymes that play a crucial role in various cellular processes, including Signal transduction, Muscle contraction, and Neurotransmission. These enzymes are activated by the binding of Calcium ions to Calmodulin, a Protein that acts as a calcium sensor. The activation of CaMK leads to the Phosphorylation of downstream target proteins, which in turn regulate various cellular activities. CaMK has been implicated in several diseases, including Cardiovascular disease and Neurodegenerative disorders. The study of CaMK is an active area of research, with scientists like James Rothman contributing to our understanding of its role in cellular processes.
