Cosmic Microwave Background

The Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) is the thermal radiation left over from the Big Bang, a pivotal concept in Cosmology that has helped shape our understanding of the universe. This radiation is thought to have been released when the universe cooled enough for Electrons and Protons to combine into Hydrogen atoms, a process known as Recombination. The CMB is a key tool for understanding the universe's origins, composition, and evolution, with its discovery in the 1960s by Arno Penzias and Robert Wilson being a major milestone in the field of Astrophysics. The CMB's blackbody spectrum and tiny fluctuations have been extensively studied using Satellites like COBE and WMAP, as well as ground-based telescopes, to gain insights into the universe's Curvature, Density, and Potential. These studies have far-reaching implications for our understanding of Gravity, Matter, and the universe's ultimate fate.
