Cube

A cube is a three-dimensional shape with six square faces, twelve edges, and eight vertices, where all sides are equal length and all angles are right angles. It is one of the five Platonic solids and appears throughout nature, mathematics, art, and culture—from atomic crystal structures to product design to philosophical symbolism.

The cube's perfect symmetry has fascinated thinkers since antiquity. Empedocles associated it with earth, while ancient mathematicians explored its geometry. In the Renaissance, the cube became central to perspective drawing. Today, cubes model everything from molecular arrangements to calculus problems to spatial reasoning puzzles.

The cube's mathematical properties—its surface area, volume, and symmetries—make it a natural unit for measurement and organization. In digital culture, voxel-based graphics use cubes to build three-dimensional worlds. The concept extends metaphorically: we "think outside the box" by transcending cubic limitations of conventional thought.
