Epithelial

Epithelial refers to a type of body tissue that forms the lining of various organs, glands, and other body surfaces, playing a crucial role in maintaining the body's internal environment and overall health. The epithelial tissue is one of the four primary types of tissue in the human body, alongside Connective tissue, Muscle tissue, and Nervous tissue. It serves as a barrier against external factors, such as pathogens and physical damage, and is also involved in the absorption and filtration of substances, like in the Kidneys and Intestines. The structure and function of epithelial tissue can vary greatly depending on its location and the specific organs it comprises, ranging from the Skin to the lining of the Lungs and other internal organs. Epithelial cells can also be found in Glands, where they produce and secrete various substances, including Hormones and Enzymes. Understanding epithelial tissue is essential in the study of Anatomy and Physiology, as well as in the diagnosis and treatment of various diseases, such as Cancer.
