Experience
Experience is the accumulated knowledge, skill, or feeling that comes from directly encountering events, situations, or sensations over time. It is both the process of living through something and the wisdom retained afterward—the bridge between raw observation and understanding.
Experience operates across dimensions: the social interactions that shape how we relate to others; the sensory and aesthetic encounters that inform our taste and judgment; the practical skills honed through Research and repetition. It distinguishes itself from mere information by requiring active participation rather than passive reception. A musician gains experience not by reading about music theory but by playing; a traveler to Afghanistan understands its Geography differently than through maps alone.
Experience is also irreducibly personal. Two people witnessing the same event leave with different impressions, shaped by their prior histories and reflections. Yet experience is collectively valuable—Indigenous Peoples encoded experience into oral traditions; organizations formalize it into protocols; Cuisine traditions transmit experience across generations.
The interplay between experience and empirical knowledge drives both Art and science forward.
