Iron oxide deposits

Iron oxide deposits are natural accumulations of iron oxides—primarily hematite, magnetite, and limonite—found in geological formations across the world. These deposits represent some of Earth's most economically valuable ore bodies, essential sources of iron for steel production and industrial applications.

Iron oxides form through various temporal processes. These deposits tell stories of planetary evolution. The Great Oxidation Event, roughly 2.4 billion years ago, fundamentally altered Earth's atmosphere and triggered vast iron oxide sedimentation. Modern deposits reflect both ancient conditions and ongoing geological processes.
