Jet stream
The jet stream is a fast-flowing band of air located in the upper atmosphere, typically between 20,000 and 50,000 feet above the earth's surface, and plays a significant role in shaping the Climate Zone and Weather patterns. It is driven by the rotation of the earth and the uneven heating of the atmosphere by the sun, resulting in strong winds that can reach speeds of up to 200 miles per hour. The jet stream has a significant impact on the movement of Weather patterns, such as high and low-pressure systems, and can also influence the formation of Fronts (meteorology). Additionally, the jet stream can affect the flight routes of airplanes, as pilots often try to take advantage of the tailwinds to save fuel and reduce flight times. The study of the jet stream is an important part of Meteorology and Atmospheric science, as it helps scientists understand and predict Weather patterns and Climate change.
