MINIX

MINIX is a compact, educational Kernel (computing) and operating system designed to teach principles of operating system design through simplicity and clarity rather than feature bloat.

Created by Andrew S. Tanenbaum in 1987, MINIX exemplifies the philosophy that smaller, understandable systems are pedagogically superior to monolithic alternatives. The project remains active, with MINIX 3 introducing novel features like Microkernel architecture and self-healing capabilities while maintaining its core philosophy: prove concepts work cleanly at small scale before scaling up.
