Manual calculation

Manual calculation is the practice of performing mathematical operations using only the human mind, pen and paper, or simple mechanical aids—without electronic computers. It remains a foundational skill in Mathematics, Physics notation, and everyday Decision making, even as digital tools dominate modern life.

Historically, manual calculation was humanity's only option.
