Pacing (narrative)
Pacing in a narrative refers to the speed at which a story unfolds, influencing the reader's or audience's emotional engagement and understanding of the plot. Effective pacing is crucial in Storytelling, as it helps to build Tension, create Suspense, and convey the Emotions of the characters. A well-balanced pacing can make a story more engaging, while a poorly managed one can lead to Boredom or Confusion. Authors and Screenwriters use various techniques, such as Dialogue, Description, and Action, to control the pacing of their stories. The pacing can also be influenced by the Genre of the story, with Thrillers typically having a faster pace than Romance novels. Editors play a significant role in helping to refine the pacing of a story during the Editing process.
