Redundancy (systems)
Redundancy in systems refers to the duplication of critical components or functions to ensure continued operation in the event of failure. This concept is crucial in various fields, including Engineering, Computer Science, and Biology. In Engineering, redundancy is used to design Fault-tolerant systems that can withstand component failures. For example, Airplanes often have redundant Flight control systems to ensure safe landing in case of primary system failure. In Computer Science, redundancy is used in Data storage systems to prevent data loss due to hardware failure. Redundancy (information theory) is also used in Error-correcting codes to detect and correct errors in digital data.
