It is one of the oldest surviving schools of Buddhism and is known for its emphasis on the Pali Canon, a collection of Buddhist scriptures. Theravada Buddhism is characterized by its focus on the Four Noble Truths and the Eightfold Path, which are considered the core teachings of the Buddha. The tradition also places a strong emphasis on Meditation and the development of Mindfulness. Theravada monks and nuns follow a strict code of conduct, known as the Vinaya, which guides their behavior and spiritual practice. The tradition has been influenced by various Cultural and Philosophical currents, including Hinduism and Taoism.
