Coral
Coral is a living organism that forms the foundation of coral reefs, one of the most diverse and complex ecosystems on the planet, playing a crucial role in Marine Ecology and supporting a vast array of marine life. Corals are tiny animals called polyps that belong to the phylum Cnidaria, which also includes Jellyfish and Sea Anemones. They have a symbiotic relationship with single-celled algae called zooxanthellae, which live inside the coral's tissue and provide nutrients through Photosynthesis. Coral reefs are formed when coral polyps secrete a hard, calcium carbonate exoskeleton that provides a structure for the reef to grow. These reefs are not only important for the marine ecosystem but also provide protection for Port Cities and support commercial fisheries, highlighting the importance of Resource distribution and Supply and Demand in maintaining their health.
