Harmonic series (physics)
The harmonic series is a fundamental concept in physics, referring to a series of frequencies that are integer multiples of a fundamental frequency, often observed in Vibrations and Wave patterns. This series is a key aspect of Acoustics, where it describes the resonance of Sound waves in various mediums, such as Strings and Air columns. The harmonic series is also crucial in understanding Electromagnetic waves, where it helps explain the behavior of Light and other forms of Electromagnetic radiation. In addition, the harmonic series plays a significant role in Quantum mechanics, particularly in the study of Energy levels and Spectral lines. The work of Leonhard Euler and Joseph Fourier has been instrumental in shaping our understanding of the harmonic series.
