Resonance
Resonance describes the amplification of oscillation or response when a system is driven at its natural frequency. The phenomenon appears across nearly every domain of nature and engineering, from the vibrations of bridges to the behavior of atoms.
In physics, resonance occurs when an external periodic force matches a system's preferred vibrational mode, causing energy to accumulate dramatically. A tuning fork, a radio receiver tuned to a specific frequency, and a child on a swing all exploit this principle. Gravitational systems also exhibit resonance—orbital bodies can amplify each other's motion when their periods align.
Beyond mechanics, resonance becomes metaphorical yet precise. In Molecular biology, atomic resonance enables magnetic resonance imaging (brain scanning).
