Jean-Baptiste Joseph Fourier
Jean-Baptiste Joseph Fourier (1768–1830) was a French mathematician and physicist who revolutionized how we understand heat, waves, and periodic phenomena. His master insight—that complex periodic functions can be decomposed into simpler sinusoidal components—became the foundation of Fourier analysis, one of mathematics' most powerful tools.
Fourier developed his theory while studying Heat transfer and thermal diffusion, publishing his groundbreaking Théorie analytique de la chaleur (1822). Though initially controversial among peers like Joseph-Louis Lagrange, his methods proved indispensable across physics and engineering.

He accompanied Napoleon Bonaparte to Egypt, where he conducted archaeological and geographic research, later becoming prefect of Isère.
