Space weather refers to the dynamic conditions in the space environment surrounding Earth, shaped primarily by activity from the Sun. Unlike terrestrial weather, space weather involves charged particles, magnetic fields, and X-rays that stream outward from our star, particularly during solar storms and coronal mass ejections.

These energetic events can disrupt GPS and GLONASS navigation systems, damage satellites, interfere with power grids, and pose radiation risks to astronauts and airline crews at high altitudes. The solar wind—a constant stream of particles—creates the Magnetosphere, Earth's protective magnetic bubble that shields us from most cosmic threats.

Scientists monitor it using satellites and ground-based observatories to predict dangerous eruptions hours or days in advance. Understanding space weather is increasingly vital as our technological civilization grows more dependent on satellites and electrical infrastructure.
