Allele
An allele is a variant of a Gene that occupies a specific location on a Chromosome. Alleles can differ from one another in terms of their DNA sequence and the effect they have on the Phenotype of an organism. The combination of alleles that an individual possesses can influence their traits, such as Eye color or Height. Alleles are a fundamental concept in Genetics and are used to study the inheritance of traits and the variation of Genotypes within a population. The study of alleles is closely related to the concept of Mendelian inheritance and is often used in Genetic engineering and Genomics.
