Bacteriophages

Bacteriophages, also known as phages, are viruses that infect and replicate within Bacteria, playing a crucial role in Soil ecology and Marine Ecology. They are among the most abundant organisms on the planet, with estimates suggesting that there are over 10^31 phages in the biosphere. Phages have been a subject of interest in Preclinical testing for their potential use as Healing agents, particularly in the treatment of antibiotic-resistant bacterial infections. The study of phages has also led to significant advances in our understanding of Genetics and Molecular biology. Oceanographers and scientists have used phages to study the Ecology of Photosynthetic organisms and the role of phages in shaping the evolution of Extremophile communities.
