Large Hadron Collider
The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is a powerful Particle accelerator that smashes Protons together at incredibly high energies to study the fundamental nature of Matter and the universe. Located at CERN, the LHC is a circular tunnel approximately 27 kilometers in circumference, buried about 100 meters underground. The collider is used to test the predictions of The Standard Model of Particle physics, including the existence of the Higgs boson. Researchers use the LHC to study the properties of Subatomic particles and to search for new physics beyond the Standard Model. The LHC uses powerful Magnets and Electromagnetic fields to steer and focus the Proton beams, which are then collided at four points around the ring.
