Pakistan

Pakistan is a country in South Asia, officially the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, located at the crossroads of South Asia, Central Asia, and the Middle East. With a population exceeding 230 million people, it is the world's fifth-most populous nation and the most populous Muslim-majority country.

The territory has a deeply layered history. The Indus Valley Civilization flourished here around 2500 BCE. Later, empires including the Mauryan, Mughal, and British colonial rule shaped its culture, architecture, and governance. Pakistan gained independence from British rule on August 14, 1947, following the partition of the Indian subcontinent—a momentous but turbulent event that created two nations and displaced millions.

The country spans diverse landscapes: the snow-capped Himalayas and Karakoram mountains in the north (home to K2), the fertile Indus River plains in the center, and deserts in the south and west. Islamabad serves as the capital, while Karachi is the largest city and economic hub.

Pakistan's culture is vibrant and syncretic, blending Islamic traditions with regional Punjabi, Sindhi, Pashtun, and Baloch identities. Urdu is the national language, though dozens of regional languages thrive. The nation has made significant contributions to literature, music, sports, and science, producing Nobel laureates and pioneering figures across fields.

Economically, Pakistan relies on agriculture, textiles, and increasingly, information technology. The country faces contemporary challenges including political instability, water scarcity, and climate vulnerability, yet demonstrates remarkable resilience and entrepreneurial spirit among its youth.
