Parentheses (mathematics)
Parentheses are a fundamental notation in mathematics, used to group expressions, indicate order of operations, and clarify complex equations. In Algebra, parentheses are used to enclose expressions that need to be evaluated first, following the order of operations (PEMDAS/BODMAS). They are also essential in Functional analysis, where they are used to define the domain and range of functions. The use of parentheses in mathematics dates back to the 16th century, with mathematicians like Ada Lovelace contributing to their development. In Technical drawing and Dimensional Analysis, parentheses are used to specify units and dimensions.
