Climate
Climate is the long-term pattern of weather conditions—temperature, precipitation, wind, and humidity—that characterizes a region over decades or centuries. Unlike weather, which changes day-to-day, climate emerges from stable patterns shaped by latitude, geological history, ocean currents, and atmospheric composition.
Earth's climates span from scorching deserts to frozen tundra, each hosting distinct flora and food webs. These systems are interconnected: tropical rainforests drive global weather systems, while Arctic ice reflects solar energy back to space. Horticulture and Agriculture depend entirely on climate stability.
Climate is not static. Historical shifts—ice ages, monsoon patterns—reveal how atmospheric elements like carbon dioxide regulate planetary temperature. Today, human activity is rapidly altering the composition of the atmosphere, accelerating climate change and forcing ecosystems and societies to adapt at unprecedented speeds.
